The seaside system of the city

For morphology and type, the bathing coast of the city is divided into three distinct areas (Downtown, Posillipo-Marechiaro, Coroglio-Bagnoli).

City Center

The beach area of ​​the city center covers an area that goes from Molosiglio to Largo Sermoneta, near Posilippo. This area includes the best landmarks of the city, such as Castel dell'Ovo, Borgo Marinari, the "Colonna Spezzata", Via Caracciolo promenade and Mergellina.
 
 Morphologically, it is characterized by a long white cliff to protect the promenade, interspersed with small sandy beaches and historic docks used by fishermen. Thanks to its bathing waters, recovered firmly back in 2002, it is an important strategic resource for the city, because it represents for its centrality, an outpour to the sea, easilyaccessible by public transport for those who do not want to stray too far.
 
The recovery of the water in this area has also helped to strengthen the close and historical relationship between the city and the sea. The sea can be experienced in different ways: the promenade, the fresh fish, boat rides and soon. In this area there are no beaches but the Rotonda Diaz, also known as "Mappatella beach", is equipped with toilets and showers.

 

Posillipo - Marechiaro

The coast of Posillipo extends its borders from Mergellina to Baia di Trentaremi, it includes the famous and historical places of the coast, ssuch as Palazzo Donn'Anna, Riva Fiorita, Villa Rosebery, Marechiaro and the Archaeological Marine Park of Gaiola. Morphologically talking, this area is characterized by a gradual transition. From a heavily populated coastline surrounded by villas and beaches, to a more natural coast with small beaches.
 
 
 
Sea inshore currents of the area, guarantee the limpidity of the water, that has always attracted citizens and tourists as well. There are several private beaches, such as: Bagno Elena, SLido Ideal, Bagno Sirena, Rocce Verdi, the Gabbiano, Lido delle Rose, Lido marechiaro, Lido Villa Imperiale, Riva Fiorita, Marechiaro and Gaiola.

 

Coroglio - Bagnoli

TheCoroglio-Bagnoli coast has always represented the best beach of Naples. Its borders go from Posillipo to Pozzuoli, moreover they include natural places as for instance Nisida island and the "colmata a mare" between the two priers of Italsider and Belvedere in Bagnoli. This area was widely know in ancient times for its thermal waters. Currently it is under urban development in order to compensate the industrial exploitation of the last years.
 
Morphologically, it consists of a large and long sandy beaches: Miramare Lido, Riva Lido, Pharaon Lido, Baia dei Re Lido, FoCoMe Lido, Voga Lido, Circolo Italsider Lido, L'Arenile-Trimar Lido, Fortuna Lido and La Rotonda Lido. Since 2002 there is another beach as well, the Marina di Bagnoli, an area accesible to disabled, equipped with toilets, showers and in the evening it is open for important events.
