The Mehari Contest shoots for the artistic installation of the "Mehari" car, belonged to the journalist Giancarlo Siani, in the rotary of Via Caldieri in Naples.
The Mehari, the car Giancarlo used to drive to the places where crime stories published by Il Mattino saw the light, was found right before the shooting of Fortapàsc (directed by Marco Risi), a movie about the life and the work of the young Neapolitan reporter, killed by Camorra on 23rd September 1985.
The audience and critic acclaim for this movie created, especially among young people, a symbol for legality: the "Mehari" car.
The idea is to realize a work of art, inspired to Giancarlo's car, placed in a "legality square" in Vomero quarter in Via Caldieri through an international contest of ideas, promoted by Pol.i.s. Foundation, with collaboration of Regione Campania, Province of Naples, Municipality of Naples, 5th Municipal corporation (Vomero - Arenella) and other institutional\social partnerships.
The position will consider the high symbolic value of the car; the essential need to protect it; the will to contribute to create a place dedicated to memory and social engagement; the coherence of the project design with urban space.
