"Transparency and colour " by Salvatore Emblema

Arranged by Pasquale Lettieri

Vernissage thursday 4th october 2012, 7.00pm - Nea gallery

Exhibition at  Nea thursday 4th october 2012, 7.00pm, "Transparency and colour", exhibition by Salvatore Emblema, arranged by Pasquale Lettieri. On view until 20th november, ten art works by "Master of unstrug canvas", the first one to discuss about "Spazialismo".
The exhibition it's a tribute to the artist that comes from Terzigno, a small town close to the Vesuvio vulcan, died in 2006 at the age of 77. Emblema starts the path making a series of collage, using withered lives and making portraits thru chromatic modulations. Then there are materials researchings using stones and minerals, collected at the floot of Vesuvio to make them figuratives.
His sense of risk and freedom brings him first to Rome, where he starts to intensify the experimentation of the use of sackcloth for his works.
At the same time, cinema's world and fashion's world are interested in his activities: he works with Fellini and draws models and canvas for the design Shubert. Still young, he moves to States where attends study lessons of Pollock and Rothko: from the first one he learns freedom of creative taste, from the second one colours and transparencies. He builds a good relationship with the critic Gliulio Carlo Argan that will be his fan and "esegeta" (interpreter of his texts).
Thanks to this friendship, Emblema knows the material experimentation by Lucio Fontana and he realizes that, to reach the essential of things, it's necessary removing and not adding.
So, he removes the colour, favouring only the canvas: then he separates it, subtracting some lines and making clear that space not dead anymore but alive with the picture.

This is the process that brings to the creation of canvas of strong abstract emotion, a kind of art which is sign, gesture and not word. With humilty and abstinacy, his researchings goes on: finally he reaches the top with  Biennale of Venezia, Metropolitan Musem of New York, Uffizi of Firenze, Palazzo Reale di Napoli; his works are bought from the most important collection of contemporary art, pubblics and privates.

If Fontana attacked the canvas with several destroying cut (the same thing for what happen about the burnings by Burri), Emblema made a light unstring of more canvas as result of creation of a definitive exchange between the support and the work itself while the colour supported the sackcloth.
In Embema there isn't any ambition to demystify paintings or to solve its ambiguity making a manual work and not creative, there is the light, the space, time and the significant strenght of symbol.
In this absolut space waiting for a definition, with no contraddiction, the sign looks for identification in gesture and direct expressiveness of colour. Nature on nature to have a liric nature that exists only inside ourselves.
