The Villa covers an area of 110,000 square meters, its extension goes from Piazza della Repubblica to Piazza Vittoria. The main entrance is in Piazza Vittoria, and other entrances are on the sides ofthe Garden. Its construction can be dated back to 1780, at the behest of KingFerdinand IV of Bourbon, who, inspired by the "Tuileries" in Paris, wanted for himself and for the Neapolitan nobility a promenade and a meetingpoint. Inside the Villa there are several buildings, as the Circolo della Stampa, the Zoological Station Anton Dohrn, where there is the oldest aquariumin Europe. With the unification of Italy in 1861, the Villa became "National" and a place where the commemorative functions of those who characterized the history of Naples took place. On this occasion, the entire population was allowed to visit the Villa. Monuments and botanical varieties enrich the Garden.
