by Bernardo Leonardi
The collection of medals, exhibited on the second floor of the town hall of Palazzo S. Giacomo, collects 45 medals and two copies of the keys of the city. The keys can be dated back tothe 19th century.
The 45 medals are related to the coinages made between 1827 and 1883. They are commemorative medals, coinages disposed by the Neapolitan administration or medals that remember all those events, exhibitions, national and international conferences in which theCity took part.
The exhibition represents a clear example of realistic figurative language, moreover it is a manifestation of a process of development and growth.
Unfortunately, there are no attestations or information on the year of realization of the medals neither onthe parameters which were followed to choose the display of certain medals. Another point to be made is the fact that the medals belonged to a civic collection whose main pieces were mainly lost.
