Wednesday, June 18th at 5pmBarons Hall of Castel Nuovo, the Mayor of Naples, Luigi de Magistris, and the Mayor of Vasto, Luciano Lapenna, will present the restoration of the " Palizzi Correspondence" a set of 2897 papers ( letters, telegrams, photographs, drawings, newspaper clippings, certificates, poems etc.). belonging to the famous painter Filippo Palizzi (1818 -1899) and his three brothers who were also painters, Nicola (1820 - 1870), Giuseppe (1812 - 1888), Francesco Paolo (1825 -1871). They were born in Vasto, whereas in Naples they studied and started their artistic path.
The restoration of the precious correspondence, contained in five volumes - one of which will be exhibited for the occasion at the Barons Hall - was created by the City of Vasto under the scientific direction of the Superintendent of Books and Libraries of Abruzzo region.
The presentation will see the participation of two prominent art historians, Dr. Lucia Arbace, Superintendent for Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage of Abruzzo, and Professor Isabella Valente, Professor of History of Contemporary Art at the University of naples Federico II. With the partecipation of the journalist Christian Lalla.
The initiative is of great cultural significance,it strengthens the bond between the Palizzi and in particular Filippo (innovator, together with Domenico Morelli, of Neapolitan painting of the nineteenth century in a naturalistic sense and co-founder of the Art Institute of Naples is dedicated to him) with the fervent cultural environment of Bourbon Naples and then unified, shedding new light on aspects of the life of the brothers Vasto not yet fully investigated by historians.
