Over one hundred bombardments with more than 20,000 civilian victims, houses, factories and monuments razed to the ground, military occupation, hunger, epidemics. The city was spared nothing during the Second World War.
To this depressing number of deaths and destruction we must add the Neapolitans killed in action in the many theatres of war
When it seemed that there were no tears left to spend on such horrors, the period passed and Naple managed to find the strength to recover, as it had at other times in its history, and then it was time to bear witness to the memory.
In March 1956 the Concentrazione Combattenti (Ex-Servicemen's Association) of the Commune of Naples placed a tablet in the vestibule of Palazzo San Giacomo in memory of the colleagues who had never returned from the war.
