Decorated for: "Glowing and unceasing example of bravery, while his battery was being violently attacked by medium and large calbre weapons, he did not cease firing, until a supply tank was hit, making it explode and overturn and bury a field gun. After this, another bullet hit an emplacement and a supply tank, setting it on fire and killing two gunners. He continued with his heroic example of calm, courage and contempt for danger and fired his last bullet effectively into the enemy trench.
In a brief pause in the firing, he went with another officer of the battery out of a noble sentiment of altruism to recover the bodies of two soldiers from beneath the oveturned emplacement but was hot by the explosion of an enemy granade which tore away part of his face, so that he fell senseless to the ground. He came to several hours later, and of the regiment's chaplain who assisted him he asked for a slate, on whicih he wrote asking first for news of the battery and the battle, so giving in such a difficult moment a superb example of his military virtues, that extraordinary spiritual strength and that great enthusiasm that had distinguished him in everything he did. Zone of Cipryanisce (Gorizia), 12 May 1917".
