Master Cesare Giardini's exhibition (Mostra Maestro Cesare Giardini)

from 10 to 30 September 2008

Cesare Giardini's painting as main theme has the journey, understood such as great metaphor, place of the memory and of the dream. The artist asserts that the things which last of a journey in the end are little ancient things: light, fragrances, glances and clouds.

From 2005 painter's attention has dwelled upon the connection between landscape and architecture trying to express "a poetics of the anomalies of contemporaneity".

Writes about it Luca Arnaudo in the text in list for the exhibition in the Neo Geo study of Milan having been held on February-March 2008: "In short Giardini belongs entirely to the modern line of the fantastic painting, a line that he continues through an imagery resolutely personal, in which to the progressive rarefaction of the former aims more openly narrative the emergency of analytical needs of lived and observed reality matchs.
Such analysis, moreover, doesn't present itself in an exclusively critical way, rather such as component of a fresh poetics of the anomalies of contemporeneity: anomalies assumed as fact, and in which may be fragments of a hidden beauty. The search recently carried out by Gardini on the changes of the italian landscapes seems to be in such way exemplary. Throng of cars crowded round lost buildings, repeaters directed toward nothing, blocked streets rending wide landscapes in which the isolation has been exchanged for the neglect: these and such others repeated elements determine an estranged space, transfigured, in painting, in images of hanging stillness. What remains moving and reassuring is, anyway, the blue shape of a coach that the artist has to pass through and to go over such stretches. In its humble, resolute trudging Giardini's simple and by this time old car becomes the ideal transport to start "imagination and to carry away it in the going of the memory - that of a toy of the childhood, but it could also be that of an exotic itinerary animated by new lights and new smells, and in the same way could be the going of a stare on the movement of clouds right behind home - till make it arrive to the point of time and earth we occupy: the fact is we travel by the sweetness of a dream, dozing leant to the image such as to the misted up glass of an old coach".
