"Memory and Present" by the Master Antonio Notari

Thanks to the patronage of the Municipality of Naples, Assessorship of Culture, and promoted by Cervino Felice Editor, will be inaugurated on Tuesday October 7, 2008, in Castel Nuovo, the exhibition "Memory and Present", that the master Antonio Notari dedicated to Naples, weaving together his intimate story with vicissitudes, men and events belonging to the city in which he was born and where it starts his journey on the artistic scenery, not only national, on which he has been authoritatively present for an half century. The show, edited by the art and history critic Angelo Calabrese, also author of the catalog that will be presented the same day in Sala della Loggia at 16:30, will take place in the homonymous Sala at the third floor, from the 7th to the 31st of October 2008.

The peculiarity of selected works for the exhibition "Memory and Present" consists in having been realized for a dialogue with himself. Notari worked on the wonderful pages of his diary like they were precious refuges, while in the meantime he created that monumental sculptures, such as the Cathedral Doors in Sora, Porta Fiberno's frescos, the big Teleri in Minturno Castle and the big paintings inspired by Caboto's journeys and exhibited in Canada. "Memory and Present" gets together the most precious creations dedicated to his formative years, his Masters, to the civic value of Naples and to what is uncontaminated.

It wasn't an easy task to persuade him to collect all his intense pictorial metaphors in which he praises culture, dreams and joy of living. The city described by Notari is not the one of extremes trouble and regrets: it talks to the heart and makes recover the hope.
