Sketches, costumes, manikins, drawings, archive materials, books and photographs tell the story of three centuries of the main neapolitan theatre
n the Palace courtyard it' s possible to admire stage equipments of Anselm Kiefer, Giulio Paolini, Mimmo Paladino, Arnaldo Pomodoro and Luigi Ontani, while the inside exhibition winds in a backwards tour in the story of San Carlo Theatre through thematic segment.
An important section of the exhibition is dedicated to the major italians and foreigners interpreters of the opera, among them Enrico Caruso, Giuseppe di Stefano, Mario del Monaco, Renato Bruson, Luciano Pavarotti, Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi, Raina Kabaivanska, Montserrat Caballè and Katia Ricciarelli.
Other sections, show costumes and snapshosts of the gratest étoiles of the ballet,such as Roland Petit, Maurice Béjart, Rudolf Nureyev, Margot Fonteyn, Carla Fracci, Vladimir Vassiliev Ekaterina Maximova, and new materials belonging to the "big batons" from Toscanini and Mascagni to Strauss, from Salvatore Accardo, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Lorin Maazel to Rostropovich, to great composers such as Bellini, Donizetti and Verdi who wrote in Naples his only chamber composition string Quartet.
The initiative has been realized under the patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, in collaboration with the Ministry of cultural activities and the Province of Naples.
