The main character in this drama, mister Aloisio, reveals himself just in the end. As the young Nic, the audience doesn't know what this strange old man is looking for. Scene after scene, The chaser develops on this doubt: what really wants Aloisio from Nic? And what obtains at the end, wasn't it what he really wanted, without knowing? Or not? This story takes place in an unspecified city. It could be Milan or Palermo, Turin or Bari, it doesn't matter. The important is that the city is Italian. The pathos of mister Aloisio is typical Italian. Is Italian his mournful way of speaking, opposite to Nic's laconic brutality. One talk too much without saying the truth, the other doesn't talk much but he always says it.
Mister Aloisio is a star, a ragamuffin, an exhibitionist, a beggar, a brilliant advertising agent, a swindle dealer,a capable politician, a dreadful diplomatic,a resourceful man,a poor devil with a lot of snags, he's cool, he arouses pity. He is all this things together. What is mister Aloisio like? Publicity? Politics? Italy? Life?
Tiziano Scarpa
The chaser is a text for four actors and various characters, set in a non-defined city of Italy. A world of solitudes and marginations, temporary and alienating jobs, physical and mental diseases, told through different stiles: from surreal to concrete, from quotidian to dreamlike. It happens on a completely empty stage, according to the author directions, that gradually fills with elements, objects, entries.
An old man and a young boy just come out of prison meet and maybe unintentionally, they build a relation.
Around them there's a city and peripheral humanity: waiter and waitresses, cashiers, two people who met in a chat, a manager of a place for turists. Amputated and missing characters, that announce the secret of a family, the one of the old man, marked by the incurable wound of an incomplete and not realized daughter. A contemporary day, set in the streets, flyovers, in buses, porno cinemas, pubs and restaurants of this sick Italy to one step from horror.

In his return to Naples, The chaser adapt itself to a very different space, almost the opposite of San Ferdinando Theatre, where we made our début for Naples Festival Theatre Italy.
The hall Ridotto in Mercadante Theatre forced us to reorganize spaces and maybe other things. It is for us an unique event, created just for this surrounding, then the show, somewhere else, will take again its natural dimension and dynamics.
