We entered the factory to make the inspection and despite the fact it was burnt, I was struck by the dreariness, the sadness, the death that the factory itself evoked.
My journey in the factory began there.
I felt it was necessary to leave from that sorrow to enter its depth, avoiding the pietism which is just the product of the hypocrisy. (Pippo Delbono)

"The lie", the last Delbono's work, starts its journey with the tragic event of the fire at the Thyssen Krupp, which killed seven workers; but the work doesn't deal just with that factory and the sorrow linked to it, or the endless series of the so called "white deaths".
The play reveals how the lie is a widespread harm, which is very difficult to escape.
It's the awareness of the sorrow the main key of this play, as well as other Delbono's works.
The lie opens in the silence. The silence, the memory are his starting point. Then, he evokes other memories, other burnt and neglected bodies and so the author's desire to get to the bottom and to go beyond the political and theatrical lies.
The lie arises from the need of truth, removing the lies which mark out lives out, unmasking the false play of the representation, becoming political play through the poetry and warning against the racism, fascism, violence and foolishness.
"Because I haven't self control anymore, I am bored to death of the people, everyone with his own story, I am tired of the same old faces, I would like to beat, to beat the woman held on the banister,
the Arab man who sings his nonsense rhyme and who plays in the corridor, the old mad woman, I am tired of their faces and all this row, I need beating, I need beating the old women, the Arabs, the mendicants, the wall tiles, the cars of the trains, the ticket inspectors, the police men, the machines, the leaflets, the lights, the disgust of these smells and noises, the bitches, the cementeries..."
This extract and other literary material form the author's discourse about his subject, with surreal and oneiric imagines, extracts by Shakespeare which aren't played but they arise like shouts of the soul,an emotional tissue of sounds which range over different fields, from opera to tango, from Stravinskij to Wagner, up to Juliette Greco's voice.
